DISPOSABLE EYE SHIELD
DISPOSABLE EYE SHIELDS FOR BETTER INFECTION CONTROL
An affordable, easy to use, disposable eye shield that is used during visual field testing for better infection control, ensuring patients’ safety.
AFFORDABLE AND EASY TO USE
SINGLE USE TO ENSURE PATIENTS’ SAFETY
Re-using eye shields is now problematic, which is why Dr. Christine Suess, an ophthalmologist with over 20 years experience, created an affordable, easy to use, disposable eye shield to eliminate potential transmission of an infectious agent such as COVID-19 to another patient or even a technician or doctor. The eye shield is placed by the patient, eliminating the need for contact between the patient and technician. After visual field testing is complete, the patient disposes the eye patch, significantly reducing the risks of cross-contamination. The single use eye shield is lightweight, it covers the eye properly and is very comfortable.
An eye shield is required for clinical use during visual field testing. The current eye shields that exist are reusable and are not easy to thoroughly disinfect between patients. The product can be made with inexpensive materials readily available - card stock or translucent pliable plastic and elastic thread. The translucent version has the added benefit of preventing the patient from dark adapting during the visual field test. The elastic band would allow the eye shield to fit all head sizes. This eye shield does not have any adhesive, so you can use it for the other eye when performing visual field testing for each eye separately.
