To supply the global market with a simple solution to ensure patient and healthcare professional safety, creating better infection control during visual field testing by using disposable eye shields.

THE SITUATION

An eye shield is required for clinical use during visual field testing. The current eye shields that exist are reusable, but they are not easy to thoroughly disinfect between patients. An easy to use, disposable eye shield is needed to eliminate potential transmission of an infectious agent such as COVID-19 between patients, technicians, and doctors. 

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The product can be made with inexpensive materials readily available. An 85mm oval concave-shaped white (or translucent) eye shield made of light weight card stock or translucent pliable plastic attached to a thin elastic band that can secure the patch around the head. The elastic band would allow the eye shield to fit all head sizes. This eye shield does not have any adhesive, so you can use it for the other eye when performing visual field testing for each eye separately.

OBJECTIVES

The developer of the Disposable Eye Shield is offering to license the manufacturing and distribution rights to qualified organizations. These organizations should be capable of producing the product and/or accessing the appropriate markets with the product.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROTECTION

The Disposable Eye Shield is the subject of Patent Pending in the United States & Canada. Other territories are being considered on an as needed basis.
