To supply the global market with a simple solution to assist in marking a straight line along the face of an engineered I-shaped floor joist.

THE SITUATION

Builders and carpenters modify engineered I-shaped floor joists for custom builds by ensuring a straight cut along the flanges and web of the joists. Since the flanges are raised above the web, marking the cuts is required in multiple planes, reducing the precision of marking and ease of use resulting in diminished productivity.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

I-joist framing square used to mark a 'square' line on the face of an engineered I-joist with a marking tool. Once the length of the I-joist is marked by the installer, place the square in the webbing of the joist. Allow the bottom of the square to rest against the inner face of the flange and simply mark a square line on the flanges and web in one shot. No more fussing with flipping your traditional speed square around 4 to 5 times. It can be made in a variety of materials according to your budget.

OBJECTIVES

The developers of the I-Joist Framing Square are offering to license the manufacturing and distribution rights to qualified organizations. These organizations should be capable of producing the product and/or accessing the appropriate markets with the product.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROTECTION

I-Joist Framing Square is the subject of Patent Pending in Canada and the US. Other territories are being considered on an as needed basis.
