THE SITUATION

When seeking to repair or replace a component of an engine associated with a serpentine belt driven pulley it is necessary to release the tension on the belt. There’s currently no tool on the market to safely remove the belt and cutting the belt or other methods can cause injury and damage the tensioner.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Serpentine Belt Tensioner Compressor is a tool to compress inline spring-loaded serpentine belt tensioners used in motive power systems. The tool is placed over the part to be compressed by inserting the pin into the hollow axle of the tensioner. With the yoke over the end of the part, tightening the nut on the threaded stud the user is able to compress the tensioners spring, effectively making the tensioner shorter thereby relieving belt tension. This tool allows a person to relieve belt tension from the accessory drive system to perform maintenance on the system without cutting the belt. This allows them to possibly save the belt and tensioner for reuse, saving a customer the cost of a belt and tensioner any time work is required unless the belt or tensioner are the issue.

OBJECTIVES

The developers of the Serpentine Belt Tensioner Compressor are offering to license the manufacturing and distribution rights to qualified organizations. These organizations should be capable of producing the product and/or accessing the appropriate markets with the product.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROTECTION

The Serpentine Belt Tensioner Compressor is the subject of Patent Pending in Canada and the US.
