To supply the global market with a specialty railcar that is heavy duty and also hardwired with plugs for reefers. 

THE SITUATION

The biggest delay at Intermodal terminals is inbound and outbound reefer builds. There is a huge need for a specialty railcar that is heavy duty plus hardwired with plugs for reefers. 

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This reefer solution includes a 9-platform railcar pre-wired with plugin pedestals that includes flip-up ladders providing access for cable plugs, and when down, functions as a catwalk. Each reefer can be plugged in from either end at each platform, and the major improvement is to be able to very efficiently turn railcars back for return trips. This railcar improvement will increase capacity from 17 max to up to 25 frozen reefer containers per Genset. This new innovative railcar is made for heavy lift reefers where each platform can haul up to 145,000 lbs or more depending on axel choice. The unique innovation here is that each railcar platform has 4 female plugs (2 at each end), making it possible to have two 20-foot reefers on bottom and a 40 footer on top. 1600 feet of heavy 32 amp cables would not need to be dragged out and then rolled up again later at the end destination, saving much time. It also saves about 100 heavy duty zip ties per reefer build. Raised lettering gives visual clarity for identification to ‘spite’ graffiti. With multiple plugin configurations, machine handling is greatly reduced. This solution saves time and may increase reefer capacity, and protects the backs of many employees.

OBJECTIVES

The developers of the Heavy Duty Hardwired Reefer Railcar are offering to license the manufacturing and distribution rights to qualified organizations. These organizations should be capable of producing the product and/or accessing the appropriate markets with the product.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROTECTION
The Heavy Duty Hardwired Reefer Railcar is the subject of Patent Pending in     United States. Other territories are being considered on an as needed basis.
