THE SITUATION
Many children and some adults on the autism spectrum often engage in self-stimulatory behaviours to help relieve anxiety, reduce fear, and help combat sensory overload. These behaviours include chewing or biting on non-edible objects, such as toys or pencils or sucking on shirts or sleeves or biting jumpers, foot tapping, hair twirling and nail biting.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Sensory Chewing Neck Gaiter consist of a light material that is attached in the back of the neck with Velcro. The side is 1 ½ inches wide and in front is 2 ½ inches wide, with a silicone on the top/middle part of the gaiter. When a child chews on the soft, rubbery silicone part, it provides a calming feeling as well as protection for the child’s teeth. The material below the rubber keeps clothing dry from saliva. The Velcro closure ensures safety for the child wearer, thereby preventing choking hazards. The cotton material makes it comfortable to wear around the neck. It soothes, calms, and helps provide concentration for the child, and is designed to help children and adults often not having control of the habit of chewing or grinding teeth on non-edible items. The Sensory Chewing Neck Gaiter was created to reduce stress, anxiety, and help with sensory processing.
OBJECTIVES
The developers of the Sensory Chewing Neck Gaiter are offering to license the manufacturing and distribution rights to qualified organizations. These organizations should be capable of producing the product and/or accessing the appropriate markets with the product.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROTECTION
The Sensory Chewing Neck Gaiter is the subject of Patent Pending in Canada and the US. Other territories are being considered on an as needed basis.
