THE SITUATION

The construction of EV charging infrastructure is not keeping up with demand, especially if we consider that most cars and trucks are parked outside at night -- either in driveways or on the street. And, because there is no standard EV utility box (Level 2) for residential “rough-in” or a clear strategy by electric utilities to provide power at the curb, our neighbourhoods will soon be riddled with electrical cords crossing sidewalks. By standardizing the charging infrastructure this transition to EVs can by accelerated.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The EV Smart Box enables the pre-wiring of charging infrastructure in new builds and custom installations. This standard utility box will be CSA/UL approved and available through wholesale/retail electrical supply outlets. The platform is convenient, cost-effective, and allows for the "plug and play" of different OEM manufacturers. The device features a heavy-duty grounded cabinet that can be secured to a wall, flush-mounted in a stud cavity (enabling access from both sides), placed in-ground/curb side, or on a pedestal/pole. The OEM power module (with optional wireless, timer, autopay, and parking meter functionality) simply clicks into the standard docking port. The cable reel is fitted with a universal socket that allows users to plug in the untethered charging cable supplied with their EV. The reel also facilitates easy extraction, rewinding, and safe storage of the EV charging cable. Finally, it minimizes cable damage in busy laneways, electrical shock, and the unsightly view of cables laying on the ground. The design is clean, organized, and the lockable cabinet provides security from weather, vandalism, and theft of electrical power. 

OBJECTIVES

The developers of the EV Smart Box are offering to license the manufacturing and distribution rights to qualified organizations. These organizations should be capable of producing the product and/or accessing the appropriate markets with the product.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROTECTION
The EV Smart Box is the subject of Patent Pending in Canada and the US. Other territories are being considered on an as needed basis.
